Finally! A straightforward explanation of basic finishes and how to use them for beautiful results. Forget spray booths, dust-free shops, and hard-to-apply finishes. Instead you will learn three simple hand-applied finishes that have easy application and repair qualities while supplying a protective barrier on your furniture. You don't need fancy equipment to get good results--creating beautiful finishes requires only solid information, good light and clean rags.
This hands-on seminar starts with the simplest finish to apply: oil. You'll learn about drying and non-drying oils, linseed vs. tung oil, how to apply oils for maximum penetration, and rubbing them out. We will naturally progress into finishes with more body that use oil as a vehicle: wiping varnishes. These include oil-varnish mixtures, wiping oils, polymerized tung oils--an array of possibilities to learn. Finally, discover the miracle finish: shellac. Whatever the question, shellac is the answer. All natural and edible, shellac offers good protection, quick drying, and excellent rubbing out qualities.
You'll learn when to use each finish, how to apply them all by hand, how to finish off your finish, and see what kind of results to expect. Whether you're a beginner or advanced woodworker, you'll want to attend this lecture. It will be packed with great information and demonstrations that you can put to use right away on your own projects.
