Getting Started in Furniture Making - October

This 6-session workshop takes you step by step through the typical furniture-making process: design, layout, cutting, joinery, assembly, glue-up and finishing. Working with machine and hand tools, you will build a solid hardwood bench with mortise and tenon joinery.
What we will cover:
  • How to make a cut list and estimate materials and cost from a design
  • Milling rough lumber using the jointer, planer and table saw
  • Tips and techniques for jointing boards into panels
  • How to do quick, accurate mortise and tenon joints--multiple methods
  • Gluing and clamping the joints
  • Using a card scraper for post glue-up surface preparation
  • An introduction to simple hand rubbed oil finishes
Included with this class is a free pass for 12 hours of studio / workshop time (a $140 value) so you can work independently on your project between class sessions.

Prerequisite: Completion of the Workshop Certification class or equivalent experience with instructor pre-approval.

Cost: $475 plus $120 materials fee
